• Pure Chaotic Insanity!

Pushing the envelope and going WAY out of the box is just what I do!

What you’re seeing is me printing onto tulle fabric…why? Because Falkor deserves to have his scales!

So I tried something new…Honestly not knowing if it would even work and it did! And I am THRILLED!!

We’ve reached a whole new level in the art of crochet at this point, and I’m not one bit upset about it.

Just look at how amazing that is! I seriously can’t get over how these chaotic ideas are coming together to bring real life to this make! I’m just in awe and a bit of imposter syndrome to be honest. I did that! I’m doing this! Me, my brain, and my hands! Like…Just…WHAT?!

Now onto the terrifying part (for me)

Time to attach his ears, and the scales, and begin the loooong super time consuming job of brushing him out.

The brushing part is what I’m super nervous to do. Once I start there’s no going back… If I mess up or overdo it, that’s it, I’ll have to start over.

    Wish me luck!

I also did not add any of the print/design time for doing the scales to the timer for making Falkor. I’m only timing the physical aspects of crocheting, putting him together, and physical detailing. Basically if it’s printing related, I haven’t been counting it towards my final times.

Take a good look at the before picture! Who’s excited to see the after when his head is fully complete?!

  • Mixing Mediums Pays Off!

    If you’re new here…Welcome!

Those that have been here a while should know by now that mixing mediums is what I do!

And this Falkor custom is no different! I want this to look as legit as possible, so I’m pulling out ALL my chaos for him.

Started with his nostrils and now to his eyelids! Because lets be honest, they MAKE his face!

Falkors future owner had a choice to make, and decided on the top color for his eyes…We both agreed that though his eyes are brown in the movie, these would be so much better and maaaaaannnn are they!

Shoutout to Darkside Eyes for these gorgeously painted eyes. Grab yours from her here: https://darksidecrochet.bigcartel.com/

I’ve been using Darkside’s eyes for several years now, and always save them for the most perfect projects!

Seriously though…How absolutely incredible does this look!

I swear I blow my own mind sometimes and what I’m able to do and create.

Getting and learning how to use my printer and create my own 3D models has been a literal GAME CHANGER for my craft!

While I may use 3D printing to take my work outside the box and to the next level, many have told me that it’s “not crochet” anymore, when YES IN FACT IT IS!

Just because I’m using printed pieces to bring life to my work, doesn’t make it any less crocheted. It’s all in the DETAILS which is exactly what my printed pieces are…Details. They are NO DIFFERENT than using safety eyes and the like!

Just look at that face! Insane how two little printed pieces bring so much life to this piece.

I am so beyond excited to continue working on him. However I’m also incredibly nervous to keep going 🫣 There’s more detail work to be done to just his head alone. But first I need to get his ears done!

Then…then comes the endless brushing, and brushing, annnnnd brushing some more. Wish my luck I don’t screw it up! I want his head finished and good before I even begin to work on his body. Because if I do someone mess it up, it’ll be far easier to redo the head than it would be to restart him as a whole entirely.

Currently closing in on 10hrs into making this beasty! Any guesses on how long it might take me as a whole to finish him?? Leave your guess in the comments!

  • Customs take TIME!

It’s very easy for people that don’t make things with their hands to forget or just not realize how long handmade things take.

Regardless of the media being used, be it knitting, woodworking, sewing, crochet, or any number of other art forms. It all takes time and skill.

It has happened to me, unfortunately more than once, where I have been questioned about my prices. “It’s just yarn” and “Why does it cost so much, it doesn’t look that hard!” Comments like these are incredibly insulting.

Sure, it may SEEM easy, but I can assure you it’s not. I have been honing my skills for YEARS. I’m always learning new things, tips, tricks. So many things that I still don’t know even with how advanced I am in my craft.

Yes, my business isn’t anything close to a “normal” 9-5 job, and that’s OK! It doesn’t make what I do worth any less.

Those with “real” jobs expect to be paid for their time, so why not handmade artists? Especially those artists that are doing custom work? Is their time and skill not worth a normal wage?

Now I personally, as I’ve discussed before, don’t charge a full hourly minimum wage. Though I know, and have been told that I should. However, I know handmade isn’t always affordable for everyone and I like to be affordable as possible while keeping in mind that yes…handmade is also a luxury.

But could you imagine going to your day job for 40+ hours a week and not getting paid for it? No… as you shouldn’t. So please help me in spreading awareness that handmade, especially custom items, should be held to the same standards. We don’t work for free either.

This Falcor I’m working on being my current and best example.

I wouldn’t be making him if he wasn’t requested. This is my job. Just because it doesn’t look the way a job “should” look, doesn’t make it any less true or my time any less valuable.

This is where I’m currently at with this journey creating Falkor, and how much time I’ve already put into it (when I’ve remembered to start the timer.) At this point, I have no idea how much time it’s going to take me to finish him.

I’m creating him from scratch, totally free handed with ZERO pattern. These things take Time!

Be like my customer! “Handmade items are costly for a reason. Lot of time, love, and product go into them! I’m all about paying their worth!”

If you made it this far…THANK YOU! I am lucky enough I don’t get too much push back when it comes to what I do. But I know plenty others that aren’t as lucky to have the support that I do. Helping spread the support for handmade and their artists is super important. So please, if you have the same mind as many of my customers, if you hear someone dogging on handmade items and not being worth it…Correct Them!

  • Maxing It Out!

When you’ve got several different eye orders and luckily all use roughly the same colors…You LOAD that build plate!!

It makes me happy seeing this many eyes ready to go all at once!

    You guys are amazing…❤️THANK YOU!!!

Now 🤞nothing goes wrong during the print! Long prints like this always make me nervous…🫣

See you in 42hours 😅 Guess it’s a good time to get some more work done with Falcor!

  • Will Feel Neverending…

    It has begun!

I have officially begun working on Falkor and I’m already pushing my brain 🤣
I knew before I even started that his nose was going to be a bit of a headache, so what better place to start!

Know his nose and mainly nostils were going to give me some grief…Not only did I badly sketch my plan.

I made a “pattern for my pattern” as my mom said when I told her what I did, hahaha.

Instead of blindly crocheting, frogging, and crocheting again. I decided to make little paper cutouts of the shapes I planned on crocheting to make sure that would actually work.

And it did, in fact, WORK! Woohoo!!!

Next was deciding exactly how I wanted to do his nostrils. In the end I did decide to print them!

First attempt didn’t go so well…I printed them way to small…Oops!

But after some trial and error I got the sizing set and printed! Then took literal ages to sew them on.

But I am THRILLED with how his Snoot has turned out!

And for those always curious for how long it takes me to do my thing…I’m trying my best to make sure I time track.

This isn’t perfect, but it’s close. I always forget to start the timer 🤦‍♀️

I did change the app I use also. What I was using previously has kind of crapped out and I’m now using Yarnly, and no, I’m not paying for the “better” versions. I just need the timer!

Anyways! This is where we are so far…And just by looking at his nose…He’s going to be bigger than planned 🫣 Which when it’s something I’m designing, is how it goes 98% of the time. I have zero sense of size when getting details correct!

  • Love a good Custom!

If you don’t know who this loveable amazing face belongs to then your 1. No longer allowed to be my friend 😂 or 2. Probably to young 😅🫣.

But in all seriousness, I am SO EXCITED the time has finally come and I’ve gotten the Custom Request I have dreamed of!

I have been requested to make a custom Falkor, MY WAY. And I am SO READY to let my chaos shine in all its glory for this guy!

Now yes, I have made one other Falkor previously and he was HUGE! But I had also followed someone else’s pattern (was a wonderful pattern and if making large items in blanket yarn is your thing here’s the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/982611872/) However…I have zero plans to ever make him that large again 😂

And so…Begins the inner workings of my brain! My sketching’s will probably make zero sense to anyone else. But for me it does sometimes help to sketch my thoughts out, even if just basic lines and shapes.

It’s helps me visualize how I need the yarn to move and what shapes would work best to pull off.

Starting off strong and figuring out how exactly to do that glorious nose of his! Now I don’t want to just print his nose fully, but I am REALLY debating on printing at least the nostrils for some real depth, plus strength and stability with the shaping of the rest of the nose..

I NEED to get the nose figured out first and foremost, as it’s a main focal point. Plus having its size set, getting the muzzle and the rest of his head figured out after should be “simple”

This is definitely going to be a journey and I hope you’re ready for the ride!! I teeeeeechically don’t have a deadline from the person that made this request…However I have given myself a personal deadline to have this done by Christmas 😅 Wish me luck!

  • Braided Passion Dress!

At least that’s what I’m currently running with for a name…

So I did in fact run out of the yarn I was using at this point. BUT never fear! Of course I have plenty of options on hand!

After a little surgery of course, hahaha!

I honestly don’t remember how long I’ve had this yarn, or the name of the color way. All I do remember is it was handmade and I believe the name of the business was “Dreamers” or something along those lines.

Anyway, I’ve had these two cakes for a while now. The bottom one I used a good portion of the outside of the cake for a different project, I don’t even remember what 🫣 and the other I’ve just been holding onto. I needed the blue bits of the one, and decided to combine the rest into one cake. Honestly LOVING 😍 how the new cake turned out!

Was a bit more heavy on the contrast than I thought it was going to be, but I’m not upset!

Honestly the change in blues throughout the skirt really gives ocean waves vibes and I love it! Very beachy, and summer feeling.

And here she is in her finished glory!! I’m so happy with this final outcome and I do believe I can finally say I’ve got my pattern pretty figured out!

Now that’s not to say it’s anywhere near ready for anyone else. More so a very VERY basic written version that I can replicate myself.

I’ll try and work on getting it to a shareable version soon!

What do you think?? Please I’m begging 🙏 Leave a comment! Hahaha.

  • New and Improved!

As I previously mentioned, I wasn’t 100% on the design just yet for the dress I’ve been making on repeat…🫣

But I do feel like I can finally say the top at least has been PERFECTED and I am absolutely thrilled with how its finally come together!

It looks amazing and is easily sizeable for smaller or larger busted women! Which makes me so happy, as I myself understand the struggle of finding a cute pattern and it not working for my size.

Now the skirt part on the other hand…has been the absolute BANE of my existence!

Peak the forbidden ramen pile. Which has been made and remade at least 4 times 🤪 Even my kids are questioning me and my sanity the amount of times I’ve restarted the skirt.

BUT I do think I’ve finally managed to get the look I want figured out! Still a lot left to go before I can fully decide if I like it or not. So more updates to come on the skirt as I get further!

So this is where we’re at so far! I am really liking it so far, and adore the colors…Fingers Crossed I don’t run out 😅 Yarn Chicken at its best here lately!

Also…I’ve totally failed and hyper focused and didn’t remember to time myself this time around. But by now we all know, I’ll most likely be making yet another one after this. Especially if there is want for a pattern! Let me know down below❤️

  • Roadtrip Fun!

For our trip to Disney we decided to drive…Which meant PLENTY of free time to finish the dress I had started! I was determined to finish it and wear it at some point while on vacation.

Final timer was juuuust under 25hrs! Which let me say, I was pretty stinking close with my guestimate of 26hrs!

Not exactly the photos I wanted to get while wearing this beauty while in Disney…But honestly lucky I even remembered to get any at all! Hahaha. Time really does fly when you’re having fun!

Also, meet my Lil’ Sister Stephanie! Help me congratulate her and her next steps in life! She’s now Engaged AND having her first baby due in Feb! So so happy for her, and can’t wait to be a Big Sis to my future BIL and the world BEST Auntie to the future little Bean!

Back to crochet… While I do love this dress and how it turned out in the end.

I still don’t feel 100% about the design, and have honestly already started another since being home from vacation in between getting other business related things going again!

Watch for updates on the next dress!

Would you want the pattern for this once I finally get it to a place I’m happy with??

  • Disney Vacation!

So I disappeared for a week…and nobody knew! Mwahahaha!

But for real though, my family and I had an AMAZING trip and I’m so glad we chose now to take the kids to Disney.

They were literally the perfect ages to go, and all will have lasting memories!

Check my “everything is fine” smile…

I personally am not a huge fan of heights, but we wanted to ride the Skyliner. This is me “not” freaking out and showing my kids just how scared I was…Cause they were also, very much nervous themselves.

But in the end it really was a great ride, and not all that scary. Just don’t look at the ground!

If you’ve known or have followed me long enough you’ll know I have a deep addiction for The Little Mermaid. So imagine my absolute THRILL when entering our room and realizing that we were staying in a Little Mermaid themed room!!

    Kids absolutely LOVED seeing Kevin!

I definitely got a good giggle out of it, and she even had fun and reacted to my snipe call! The cast members got a good giggle out of it to.

This was my second time in Disney, and I’m honestly not even sure how I missed these guys the first time!

So it was absolutely necessary to snap a photo with them this time around!

I will say though, out of both times being there…I am genuinely upset on the total LACK of Ariel/The Little Mermaid.

Like you’d think there would be a larger presence, but beyond some ears and bubble wands, finding anything decent that’s Little Mermaid related is a nightmare!

This year also clearly seemed to be the year I leaned heavily into my Villain Era! Villain ears, Maleficent Loungefly, and even found a Maleficent necklace! For sure was loving every last bit.

And of course! You can’t do Disney right if you don’t go watch the fireworks at least once while you’re there!

We watched the new evening parade, and then stayed for the fireworks. The kids were BEAT, but were beyond thrilled with being able to watch both!

They all claim it was their favorite part! That and riding the “doggy coaster” (Slinky’s ride).

All in all this was an absolutely amazing vacation and time with my family. So many new core memories to love and cherish!
