This Dress…

Might possibly be what sends me on a grippy sock vacation 😅

I decided when I started this dress I wanted it to be done with thread. I still have a TON on hand from the gradient cakes I use to make and it’s just so pretty I need to find ways to use it.

After finding a stupidly simple way to triple up a single strand I was off!

Using 20/2 Cotton thread and a 2mm hook I got to it.

Eventually got to this point of the top and went back and forth for a while if I liked the waist where it was or if I wanted it longer.

So pinned it all up to my dress form that is 100% not my size and to small 🫣 but luckily it was still helpful in giving me a good look at what could be the end result.

Also ignore the wonky pinning of the skirt…I wasn’t taking my time and just needed a visual.

In the end I decided to extend the waist another bunch of rows and I was so happy I did. Put it onto my larger dress form, of which is still also Not my size 🥴 but the idea was definitely coming to life.

Eventually finishing the top, the next time consuming part came.

Attaching the eyelets is easy enough, however due to previous issues and then coming off. I decided to sew around each one for extra security.

Plus is just looks pretty!

It was at this point however that tragedy struck with this project…

The top DID NOT FIT!

The waistband fit perfectly however the cups sat way too far apart and just weren’t shaped correctly.

When working with just thin yarn, getting sizes down can be difficult.

I know what I did wrong and where…

Unfortunately for me it was all the way back at the very beginning 🥴 Thus began the fun task of frogging and completely starting over.

To save myself a MASSIVE headache I chose to start the new top pulling directly from the old top. Frogging this thread becomes a huge amount of forbidden ramen it is almost impossible to frog and not tangle up.

Working directly from the previous piece saves me from tons and tons of knots.

While restarting the top I decided to also make the attempt to make my own dress form that fits my body shape… This plan also didn’t work out how I had hoped, so I finally caved and just bought the adjustable dress form in the size I needed.

After some adjustments to make my measurements, and giving her some added bust 😏 I was finally in business with a perfectly sized form to my body size! Woohoo!

Which all of this finally bring us to the point I am currently at with the remake of the top!

Fitting much better this time around.

I did also change how I constructed the top this time around for a more natural shaping to the top.

The gap currently in the center will not be there in the end, and the top will also be brought up a little higher and the V will be more prominent in the end as well.

Currently I’m working down the waist again and will finish the top half after everything else is done.

Thanks for making it to the end and following along with the chaos of creating this dress 🫣
